DESCRIPTION

Snake and Ladder Round, rooted in the ancient Indian tradition of Gyan Chaupar — the game of knowledge — is a up to four-player board game that traces its lineage back centuries before the simplified Western version the world now knows. Each player starts at house number one and races to reach Home at house number 100, with a single cubic or stick die determining every step of the journey.

The snakes and ladders are not mere obstacles and shortcuts — in the original Indian conception, they carried moral and spiritual weight. Ladders represented virtue, grace, and ascent toward liberation; snakes embodied vice, karma, and the soul's inevitable regressions. That philosophy gives every throw a quiet gravity. One moment you are climbing toward the summit, the next a snake has swallowed your progress whole. The game is as much about fate as it is about the journey.

This set is crafted in the Kalamkari tradition, one of India's oldest hand-painting arts, known for its expressive linework and motifs drawn from mythology and nature. For a game whose very imagery — serpents, ascent, the soul's progress — belongs so deeply to the Indian visual tradition, Kalamkari is an entirely natural and fitting form.

The first player to reach house number 100 wins. Each set includes the game board, 4 pawns, and 1 cubic or stick die. A wonderful gift for families, curious minds, or anyone who wants to experience the ancient Indian original behind one of the world's most enduring games.

Part of Ramsons Kreedaa Kaushalya — traditional Indian board games researched, revived, and handcrafted in Mysore since 1970.

🤲 Because this is a 100% handmade product, every piece is one of a kind. The stitching, thread colour, and pawns may vary slightly from what you see in the images — and that's exactly what makes yours truly unique. No two boards are ever exactly alike; each carries the individual touch of the artisan who made it.
