Basavana Ata | Silk Embroidery

Basavana Ata is an ancient Indian circular race board game for two to four players, its design inspired by the Chakra of Sri Vishnu — five concentric circles intersected by four lines, with triangular extensions at each cardinal point forming the home bases. Each player commands a single counter, racing along the dotted points of the board in a spiralling journey toward the innermost circle.

Movement is decided by the throw of six wooden cowries — land on an opponent's counter and send them all the way back home, earning a bonus turn. But there is a catch: a player must capture at least one opponent before their counter can venture into the inner circles. Every throw counts.

This board game is handcrafted in silk embroidery, with intricate bull motifs adorning each corner and the concentric circular pattern delicately stitched across the playing surface — as much a work of art as it is a game.
